Obituary of Victor M. Genco, Sr.

Victor Mariano Genco Sr

May 3, 1937-September 25, 2017 (80 years of age)

Victor M. Genco Sr. passed away on September 25, 2017 after a battle with cancer.  He is survived by his wife of 59 years, the former Diane Mackie, their three adult children: Cheryl Lynott, Victor M. Genco Jr., Francis Genco Sr, and 4 grandchildren.

Victor was born and raised in New Brunswick, New Jersey and received his Bachelors and Masters Degree in teaching from Monmouth University. Victor started his career as a teacher in New Jersey simultaneously getting married to Diane and starting a family together. He and Diane later relocated their family from New Jersey to the Pocono Mountains in 1972, to create a better life.

He served his community as a school teacher in the Pocono Mountain School District, teaching math and history.  He was also a local entrepreneur having started, or taken over, several businesses in the various communities of the Pocono’s. The Casino Theatre of Mount Pocono, Gaslight Restaurant and Lounge of East Stroudsburg, and Pocono Mountain Fudge Factory are all notable examples of his leadership in the community in creating local jobs and enhancing the economic development of Monroe County.

Victor will be sadly missed by his family and friends. However, his tenacious personality and adventurous spirit has been passed through his children to his adult grandchildren who have all graduated from universities and are local leaders in their own right or serve our country from Washington DC, Seattle WA, Anchorage AK, and Guam.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 30 at St Ann’s Catholic Church in Tobyhanna, PA. Visitation will start at 9:00 AM with a funeral mass beginning at 10:00 AM.

The family has asked that in lieu of flowers donations be made to: Compassionate Care Hospice Foundation, 237 East Brown Street, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301.
