Obituary of George Baur

George W. Baur, 79, of Tobyhanna, died Friday, February 3 at Kindred Hospital Wyoming Valley in Wilkes-Barre. He was the husband of the late Joan (Liebl) who passed away in 2002. Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late George W. Baur Sr. and Margaret (Strubel) Baur. Before his retirement, George was an elevator mechanic for Verizon. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was a member of the VFW Post #3448 in Tobyhanna. He was also a member of the Telephone Pioneers. He is survived by three sons, Alan Kratz of Oakdale, NY, Kenneth Baur of Glendale, NY, Scott Baur of Howard Beach, NY; four daughters, Kerry Baur of Jamaica Estates, NY, Lois Murphy, Donnalee Serraino, and Suanne Cavanaugh, all of Tobyhanna; a brother, Alfred Baur of Oscala, Florida; a sister, Patricia O'Connor of Queens, NY; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Colin Baur. A Blessing Service will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, February 6 at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. Interment will follow at St. Paul's Cemetery in Swiftwater. There will be a viewing on Sunday, February 5 from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
