Obituary of Leif Bakke

Leif A. Bakke, 82, of Pocono Summit, died on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at Slate Belt Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Bangor. He was the husband of Ruby E. (Meinders) Bakke. Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Sofus and Karen (Andersen). Before moving to the Poconos in 1980, Leif was employed for thirty years as a postal worker at the Philadelphia 30th Street Station. He then worked for the Pocono Mountain School District as a bus driver. He was very active at his church, Lutheran Church of Our Savior in Mt. Pocono, serving as a choir member and a member of the church council. He was a United States Army veteran, who served during World War II. In addition to his wife, Ruby, he is survived by a son, Eric E. Bakke of Stroudsburg; a grandson, Eric Lear and his wife, Janet of Pocono Summit; three step-grandchildren, Chris, Bill, and Shawn Cummings; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Elsie Cummings, who died in 2000 The Reverend Rudy DeRosa will conduct a funeral service at 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 3 at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. There will be a viewing from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Private entombment will take place at Fairview Memorial Park.
