Obituary of Edward Doherty

Edward J. Doherty, 75, of Pocono Lake, died Monday, January 25 at Wilkes-Barre General Hospital . He was the husband of Sara (DelCorso) Doherty, to whom he was married for 18 years. Born in Akron, Ohio, he was the son of the late Andrew and Mary (Lavelle) Doherty. Edward retired as a supervisor for the Bureau of Immigration and Naturalization Service. He was a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church and a Fourth Degree in the Knights of Columbus. Edward was a United States Navy veteran. In addition to his wife, Sara, he is survived by two sons, Edward Doherty Jr. of Jersey City, NJ and Timothy Doherty and his wife, Pamela of Washington, DC; two daughters, Christine Willoughby and her husband Dave of Columbus, OH, Deborah Tankersley and her husband Ken of Dayton, OH; two brothers, Andrew Doherty and Patrick Doherty and his wife, Diane; two sisters, Kathleen Savich and her husband Mike, Rita Davis and her husband, Dennis; and 15 grandchildren. Edward was also survived by Sara's children; James, Joseph, Richard and Nancy Brunetto. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Marie Doherty. There will be a viewing on Thursday, January 28 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley and on Friday at 9:30 a.m. at the church. The Reverend Father Bryan Wright will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, January 29 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Maximilian Kolbe Catholic Church in Pocono Pines.
