Obituary of Stephen Kovach

Stephen Kovach, 93, of Pocono Pines, died Thursday, November 5, 2009. He was the husband of the late Tessie (Rutkowski) Kovach, to whom he was married for 67 years. Born in Central City, he was the son of the late Charles and Mary (Prodan) Kovach. Stephen worked as a restaurateur in many of the most renowned restaurants in New York. He resided in Woodside, Queens for 41 years before moving to Lake Naomi in 1988. He was a member of the restaurant union in New York City, the American Legion Wilson-Fisher Post 413 in Pocono Lake, The Rotary Club, Loyal Order of Moose and Chapter President of the AARP in Woodside, Queens. He was also a member of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church in Pocono Pines, where he also served as a long-time usher. Stephen is survived by one son: Stephen M. Kovach, and his wife Stephanie of Tampa, Fl; one daughter: Tanya K. Tesa of Manhattan, NY; three sisters: Betty Shibelski of Lodi, NJ, Judy Allard of Altoona and Eva Palanes of Central City; three grandchildren: Stephen M. Kovach, Jr., Katherine A. Kovach and Lucy Rose Kovach, all of Tampa, Fl; and 17 Nieces and Nephews. In addition to his wife Tessie, Stephen was preceded in death by four sisters and four brothers. The Reverend Father Bryan B. Wright will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, November 9 at 10:00 am at St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Sullivan Road, Pocono Pines. There will be viewings on Sunday, November 8 from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 and 390, Paradise Valley and on Monday, November 9 at 9:00 a.m. until the time of Mass of St. Maximilian Kolbe Church. Cremation is entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Maximilian Kolbe Church, Sullivan Road, PO Box O, Pocono Pines, Pa 18350.
