Obituary of Alice Haab

Alice Haab, 79, of Long Pond, died Saturday, September 24, 2011 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the loving wife of H. George Haab. They were married for 56 years. Born in Rockville Center, NY she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Augusta (Adams) Arnold. Alice was a member of Faith Lutheran Church in Blakeslee, PA and a former member of Christ Lutheran Church in Wantagh, NY. She received her undergraduate degree in teaching from William Smith College and later went on to receive her Masters degree from Hofstra University. She was a teacher in the Malvern School District and later the Nursery School Director at Grace Lutheran Church in North Bellmore for more than 20 years. She held the position of secretary for the Telephone Pioneers of America and treasurer for the Woman of Faith at Faith Lutheran Church. Alice was a member of the Pathfinders at Lake Naomi, Pocono Mountain Seniors and a proud volunteer for Meals on Wheels. She enjoyed crafting, gardening, reading and most of all being a "grandma" and "ema" to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Alice would make bibs for all of her new grandbabies when they were born and for all of the holidays. She also made wreaths for Faith Lutheran Church. She will be deeply missed. In addition to her husband George, she is also survived by her three children: Reverend Russell Haab and his wife Lynn of Slatington, PA, Richard Haab and his wife Nancy of Stowe VT, Alison Corell and her husband Kurt of Freeport, NY; a brother: Ernest Arnold and his wife Carol of Woodbridge, VA; eleven grandchildren: William, David, Allison, Brittany, Charlotte, Jonathan, Samantha, Kimberly, Zachary, Ricki, Nicholas; two great grandchildren; Emily and Julie; and several nieces and nephews. Pastor Wayne Kaufman will conduct a memorial service on Thursday, September 29 at 2:00 pm at Faith Lutheran Church, Rt. 940 in Blakeslee. There will be a visitation from 1:00pm until the time of service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Alice may be made to Faith Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 228 Blakeslee, PA 18610 or Meals on Wheels, 9 North Ninth Street, Stroudsburg, 18360. Cremation was entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
