Obituary of Vivian Thorn
Vivian Thorn, 93, of Scotrun, died Thursday, February 25 at the VNA Hospice House of Monroe County in East Stroudsburg. She was wife of the late Major William Thorn.
Born in Red Bank, New Jersey, she was the daughter of the late Jesse and Sylvia (Stokey) Havens. Vivian moved to the Poconos in 1953 with her late husband who was first Provost Marshal at the Tobyhanna Army Depot. She assisted in founding the Tobyhanna Military Wives Club in 1953.
Vivian was an avid reader who loved needlepoint and knitting. She provided her family with a multitude of afghans and baby blankets.
She is survived by a son, Bill Thorn of Scotrun; two daughters -in-law, Diane Thorn of Scotrun and Tana Thorn of Canadensis; and three grandchildren, Eric, Sara, and Tommy. She was preceded in death by two sons, Tom and Ted Thorn; and a sister Fannie Stevenson.
The Reverend George Alt will conduct a Memorial Service at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of Routes 940 & 390 in Paradise Valley. There will be a visitation from 5:00 p.m. until the time of service. Her cremains will be buried with her husband at Arlington National Cemetery. Private cremation was entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
