Obituary of Harry E. Hobbs
Harry Edward Hobbs, 64, of Mount Pocono, died Sunday, November 30, 2014 at his home after a five year battle of renal failure as a result of diabetes. He went kicking and screaming the entire way not because he was afraid of death, but because he simply loved life, family and friends and had far too much on his bucket list. In the end, he chose death on his terms with the help of Hospice surrounded by his family because anyone who knew him was aware he liked being the center of attention.
Born in Pawtucket, RI, he was the son of the late Charles and Helen (Souther) Hobbs and the husband of Linda (Brandt) Hobbs.
He was a memorable person, like him or not, you knew who he was and nothing bothered him more than mediocrity. Dream big, take a risk, stand up for what you believe is how he lived. Harry had a rather colorful life starting out in a Volkswagen Van to see America. He went to Woodstock.... twice! His message to America is, "Be involved, not apathetic. One person can make a difference".
In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by his sons, Adam Hobbs of Hingham, MA; Scott Boyle of Mount Pocono; Jake Boyle of Mount Pocono; siblings, Cheri Leonard and her husband, Alex, Justin Hobbs and his wife, Linda; Helen Page and her husband, Larry all of MA; Kirk Hobbs of NH; Sally Butler and her husband Ed of ME; beloved aunt, Nancy Souther of MA whom he adored, countless nieces and nephews; his fairy godmother, Alyson Potts of Tobyhanna who tended to his care throughout his illness and his guardian angel, Tracey Oliva of Geisinger.
Dr. Catherine Thayer will conduct a celebration of life on Friday, December 12 at 6 pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. There will be a visitation from 4 pm until the time of celebration.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Harry's honor may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 30 East 33rd Street, New York, NY 10016. Or become an Organ Donor or go fishing, just look up from your phones, computer, ipods to look at someone in the eye and connect with them. Life is short tell the people that matter you love them, be compassionate, and honor Harry by giving lots of hugs.
