Obituary of Kathleen Stone
Kathleen O’Connor Stone of Pocono Farms, Tobyhanna, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2014 at the Easton Health and Rehabilitation Center following a long illness. She was 71.
Mrs. Stone, known to all as Kitty, was born in New York City and attended St. Raymond’s School and Preston High School in the Bronx. She graduated from Baldwin Senior High School in Baldwin, Long Island, New York, where her family had moved in 1958, and then worked as a legal secretary.
She married Russell Stone in July of 1966, and lived in Laurelton, Queens, NY, Freeport, Long Island, and Baldwin before retiring with her husband to Pocono Farms. After the birth of their son Gerald in 1967 she was a full-time mother and homemaker before going to work in 1982 as an editorial assistant at The Long Island Catholic newspaper, where she was a valued employee for more than 20 years until her retirement.
In addition to her husband, of Tobyhanna, and son Gerald A. Stone of Woodbury, CT, Mrs. Stone is survived by her daughter-in-law Shelly Stone and granddaughters Megan Mary Stone and Emma Kathleen Stone, all of Woodbury; by her sisters Shevawn and Elizabeth O’Connor of Levittown, PA and Eileen Herdje of Mount Laurel, NJ; and by several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Malachi and Mary O’Connor of Pocono Farms, by her sister Mary O’Connor and brother John Malachi O’Connor.
There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, January 5 at the Church of St. Ann, Main Street, Tobyhanna. The Reverend Father Paul Fontanella will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. at the church.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to Alzheimer’s research or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Private cremation has been entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
