Obituary of Russell C. Transue

Russell "Lindy" Transue Jr., 87, of Cresco, passed away April 8, 2015. He was the loving husband of Audrey (Decker) Transue of 64 years. Lindy was born in East Stroudsburg to Russell and Grace (Repsher) Transue and lived all of his life in Monroe County. A World War II veteran, he served in the Pacific Theater in the Philippines. His service was in the U.S. Navy 1st Construction Battalion. His rank was Carpenter 3rd class. Lindy was drafted by the Cleveland Indians after high school but enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon return from the Navy, he played professional baseball for the Bushkill Poconos Team as a second baseman and pitcher. An inductee of the ESSD Athletic Hall of Fame 2003-2004, he was the first athlete to obtain three varsity letters for football, baseball and basketball. Lindy was also an avid golfer and bowler, playing in many leagues across Monroe County, winning numerous championships in the 60s and 70s. Before retirement, Lindy worked construction for Lloyd LaBar Builders, Albert Storm and Dale Johnson & Sons. He was a member of the Canadensis United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post 0922. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and was a member of the Oak Springs Sports Association for 37 years, serving as secretary for 25 years. He enjoyed working at Buck Hill Golf Course for 17 summers. In addition to his wife, Audrey, he is survived by three daughters, Pam Sheloski and her husband, Steve, of Cresco, Jayne Costanzo and her husband, Dan, of Cresco and Lori of Cresco; son, Randy Transue and his fiancée, Dawn Collie, of Frederick, Md.; three brothers, Albert Transue of Florida, and Richard and Ross Transue, both of East Stroudsburg; seven grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Lindy was preceded in death by his sister, Norma Transue. Visitation will be from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 2 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco, followed by a service. Memorial contributions in honor of Lindy may be made to the Canadensis United Methodist Church, Po Box 23, Canadensis, PA 18325. Private cremation has been entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
