Obituary of Edward Carl Sorensen

Edward Carl Sorensen, 87, of Swiftwater, died Monday, June 1, 2015, at his home. He was the loving husband of the late Antoinette V. Sorensen, who passed away in 2013. Born in Staten Island, New York, he was a son of the late Carl and Edith (Mathiason) Sorensen. Proudly serving in the Merchant Marines during World War II, Ed later enlisted in the U.S. Army. He served two hitches as a paratrooper in the 11th Airborne Division, of which he is a lifetime member. Ed remained a licensed parachute rigger for the remainder of his life. After fulfilling his commitment to his country, he worked for Whelan Trucking as a truck driver in Staten Island. Upon his retirement, he and Ann moved to Swiftwater, where he drove the courtesy bus for 22 years for LaBar Village Retirement Community in Stroudsburg. He is survived by his two sons, Ronald Sorensen and his wife, Nelly, of New Brunswick New Jersey, and Robert Sorensen and his wife, Victoria, of Swiftwater.; sister Grace Parise of Manchester, New Jersey; three grandchildren: Frank, Derek and Mary Rose; and three great-grandchildren: Justin, Nathan and Dylan. In addition to his wife, Antoinette, he was preceded in death by his siblings: Robert, Helen, Alvine and Edith Sorensen. There will be a viewing from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. A service will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery, Stroudsburg.
