Obituary of Francis J. Pisko, Sr.
Francis J. Pisko Sr., 95, of Mount Pocono, died Wednesday, June 3, 2015, after a brief illness. He was the loving husband of the late Mary V. Pisko.
He was born on April 29, 1920 in Lansford, to the late Stephen and Mary (Kovich) Pisko.
A proud veteran of the U.S. Army, Francis served with Battery C 879th Field Artillery Battalion. He was honorably discharged on Sept. 22, 1945. While in the army, he participated in the invasion of Normandy and battles in Northern France, Rhineland and Central Europe. Francis received the Good Conduct Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with four bronze stars and one bronze arrowhead. He was a Marksman Carbine 43 and 50 Caliber Machine Gun M43.
Francis moved his family to Mount Pocono in 1963, where he and Mary became members of St. Mary of the Mount Church. He was employed by Lehigh Coal and Navigation, Buck Hill Falls Inn Company and Pisko Landscaping. He was an avid sportsman who enjoyed hunting, not only with his two sons, but also with his hunting buddies. Francis also enjoyed fly fishing. He was most happy being with his beloved family, friends and puttering in the gardens.
He is survived by his daughter, Ann, and her husband, Oswald; sons, David Pisko and wife, Faye, Francis "Butch" Pisko Jr. and wife, Teresa; two granddaughters; two grandsons; two great-grandsons; two sisters, Ann DiGiacomo and Genevieve Harakus and Metro/Gus; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary; brothers, John, William, Thomas and Edward Pisko; and sisters, Helen Pisko, Louise Fiorito, Bernadine Trach and Mary Mailk.
There will be a viewing from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday, June 8 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Rev. Fr. Gregory Loughney will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary of the Mount Church, 27 Fairview Ave., Mount Pocono. Burial will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery in Moscow.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of Francis may be made to the Monroe County Veteran Affairs Office, 1 Quaker Plaza #101, Stroudsburg, PA 18360.
