Obituary of Marie Elaine O'Boyle

Marie Elaine O'Boyle, 69, of Mount Pocono, passed on to heaven, Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg. Born on Feb. 28, 1946, in Wilkes-Barre, she was the daughter of the late James Wayne and Almeda (Zorzi) McVeigh. “Elaine,” as her friends and family knew her, was a graduate of St. Mary's High School, class of 1964, and received an associate's degree from Wilkes-Barre Business College in 1967. After school, she was employed by the Bell Telephone Co. For the past 37 years, Elaine was office manager for her husband's dental practice in Mount Pocono. Elaine married Dr. Ronald C. O'Boyle on Aug. 23, 1969, and they would soon have celebrated 46 years of a devoted and loving marriage. Their married life started in Pittsburgh, followed by several moves to Yorktown, Virginia; Derry, Northern Ireland; and Orlando, Florida, before settling in Mount Pocono in 1978. Elaine was a caring and proud wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed gardening and multiple crafts, and was a fan of both traditional Irish music and country music. Elaine was a great cook, known for her homemade spaghetti sauce, lasagna and cream-cheese brownies. Her Independence Day parties were always well-attended and enjoyed by all. She loved to travel all her life and, for the past 25 years, was an avid cruiser. In addition to her husband, Ronald, she is survived by her daughter, Laura Beth (O'Boyle) Bruce and her husband, Joseph Arthur Bruce, of Columbia, Maryland.; her son, Michael Patrick O'Boyle and his wife, Tracy (Smith) O'Boyle, of Los Angeles, California; her grandchildren: Kevin Christopher Bruce, Keira Maeve Bruce, Matthew Ryan O'Boyle and Allison Elle O'Boyle; her mother-in-law, Jessie O'Boyle; her brothers-in-law, Robert O'Boyle, and Charles O'Boyle and his wife, Lorraine; her sister-in-law, Kathleen Kwasny and her husband, Barry; and many nieces and nephews. Elaine was preceded in death by her brothers, John and James McVeigh. There will be a viewing from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 13, at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Rev. Gregory Loughney will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 14, at St. Mary of the Mount Church, 27 Fairview Ave., Mount Pocono. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery, Hanover Township, in Wilkes-Barre. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Monsignor McHugh Elementary School, 212 Route 390, Cresco, PA 18362.
