Obituary of John D. Knecht

John D. Knecht, 88, of Tobyhanna, died Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at home. He was the loving husband of Nancy (Bittner) Knecht who shared 57 years of marriage. Born in Effort, he was the son of the late Rufus and Catherine (Stout) Knecht. John was a proud Veteran of the United States Army. He was a carpenter for many years and worked for the Pocono Mountain School District. After retiring from the school district, he worked for Coolbaugh Township. John liked gardening, was an avid hunter and enjoyed fishing, especially in Canada. He loved baseball and was a die-hard New York Yankee fan. John was a member of the American Legion post 413 in Pocono Pines. In addition to his wife, Nancy, he is survived by his sons, Bruce Knecht and his wife, Carol of Tobyhanna, John Knecht of Bartonsville, Kris Knect and his wife, Lori of Bear Creek, and Kirk Knecht of Pocono Pines; grandchildren, Jessica Knecht, Danielle Kimmel, Amy, Kyle, Daniel, Kevin and Katie Knecht; great-grandchildren, Nathan and Jason Kimmel and Hayley Knecht. John was preceded in death by his 17 siblings. There will be a viewing from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, October 4 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. Services will be held at 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
