Obituary of Thomas E. Shields

Thomas Eugene Shields, 77, of Mountainhome, passed away at Pocono Medical Center on October 8, 2015. He was born in Brooklyn, NY, to the late Thomas E. and Gertrude (Magee) Shields. He was married to his best friend, Carol (Hanlon) Shields, for almost 52 years. He proudly served in the US Navy Submarine Service and was past commander of the USSVI Pocono base. His greatest pride was his children: Carolyn (Jim) Terry, Colleen (Marty) Clarke, Thomas (Lisa) Shields, Cathleen (Tyrone) Davies, Sean Shields, Daniel (Catherine) Shields, and Caryn (Mark) Shaffer. He expected the best from them because he wanted the best for them. His greatest joy was his 15 grandchildren: Ryan, Benjamin, Rachel, Megan, Colin, Devin, Grace, Aiden, Claire, Riley, Blake, Derek, Cole, Erin, and Brandon. In addition to his family, he is survived by sisters Patricia, Susan, and Maryann and brothers Paul and Kenneth, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers Michael and Steven. At his request, there will be no viewing. There will be a visitation from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday, October 24 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.
