Obituary of Paul T. Mahoney

Paul T. Mahoney, 60, of South Sterling, died Monday, Nov. 16, 2015, at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. Paul's last day was spent surrounded by 26 family members; his hospital room was filled with love, laughter and tears. He was the loving husband of Mary (O'Rourke) Mahoney; they just celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in August. Born in Staten Island, New York, he was a son of Frances (Raisch) Mahoney of Phillipsburg, New Jersey, and the late Thomas J. Mahoney. Paul was very mechanically inclined and worked through the years as an auto mechanic, doing auto restoration and water well drilling. He most recently worked at the Tobyhanna Army Depot until his retirement in 2006 due to his illness. The most important thing in Paul's life was his family. His favorite time of day was pulling into the driveway after work. He would drive in very slow and savor everything about coming home to his family. Paul left this life surrounded by family and is once again happily reunited with his son, father and loved ones. In addition to his wife, Mary, and mother Frances, he is survived by his children: Michael D. Mahoney and Colleen F. Mahoney, and his faithful companions, Rudy and Cleo, all of South Sterling; his brothers: Douglas Mahoney and his wife, Linda, of Changewater, New Jersey; Brian Mahoney and his wife, Randi, of Lancaster; and Mark Mahoney of Williams Township; his sisters: Claire Shadood and her husband, Patrick, of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, Leslie Mahoney of Lancaster and Frances Mahoney of Phillipsburg, New Jersey; his mother-in-law, Joan O'Rourke of Phillipsburg, New Jersey; his brother in-law, Michael O'Rourke and his companion, Sandy Martin, of Alpha, New Jersey; his sister in-law, Kathleen Farrelly and her husband, Dennis, of Bushkill; and his lifelong friend, Kenny Maas and his wife, Marilyn, of Pattenburg, New Jersey. Paul was more like a cousin than an uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He loved spending time and having fun with them. In addition to his father, Paul was preceded in death by his son, Paul T. Mahoney II; his father in-law, Ronald J. O'Rourke; and his brother in-law, Ronald J. O'Rourke II. There will be a viewing from 8:30 to 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 21, at St. Ann's Church, Main Street, Tobyhanna. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, South Sterling.
