Obituary of Shirley A. Foose

Shirley A. Foose, 74, of Swiftwater, died Sunday, Nov. 15, 2015, surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the wife of Arthur R. Foose. The couple would have celebrated 50 years of marriage this coming July. Born in Mount Carmel, she was a daughter of the late William and Arlene (Reed) Thomas. Shirley enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, spending time with her family and cats, and cheering at her granddaughter's volleyball games. In her early years, she was a skilled seamstress and enjoyed her sewing projects. Later in life, she discovered the joy of traveling. She thoroughly enjoyed her trips to the Eastern and Western Caribbean, Florida, Washington, D.C., Boston and Hawaii. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Tannersville. In addition to her husband, Arthur, she is survived by her son, Ben Foose and his wife, Stacy, of Allentown; her daughter, Barbara Foose and her partner, Cindy Mayes, of State College; her sister, Cathryn Thomas of Hazleton; and her granddaughter, Erika Foose. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Monday, Nov. 23, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Tannersville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Dale and Frances Hughes Cancer Center, East Stroudsburg.
