Obituary of Karl Butz

Karl E. Butz, 79, of Scotrun, died Friday, January 14 at Sacred Heart Hospital in Allentown. He was the husband of the late Marilyn (Miller) Butz. Born in Appenzell, he was the son of the late Frank and Olive (Miller) Butz. Karl began his education in the one room schoolhouse in Appenzell and then graduated from Pocono Township High School in Tannersville. He grew up on and ran the family dairy farm in Appenzell up until he was called to service for his country. Karl was builder and developer for over 40 years throughout the Poconos. He served in the U.S. Army in Germany and was a member of the National Rifle Association. He was a loving, committed and devoted father and grandfather. Karl is survived by his son: Jeffrey Butz of Swiftwater and his daughter: Lorri Zimmerman and her husband Michael of Scotrun; four grandchildren: Kendell and Ryan Zimmerman of Scotrun, Michael Zimmerman of Hamburg and Jeffrey C. Butz of Swiftwater. In addition to his parents and wife, Karl was preceded in death by his four siblings. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, January 19 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm and 7:00 to 8:00 pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390, Cresco. Mr. Richard Drosnock will conduct a funeral service at 8:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment will be private.
