Obituary of Florence M. Fitzsimmons

Florence (Moffitt) Fitzsimmons, of Mount Pocono, died on Monday, February 15, 2016 in Scranton after a short illness. Born in Scranton on September 7, 1927 she was the daughter of Frank and Theresa Moffitt. She graduated from Marywood University formerly Marywood College in 1949 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Studies. On June 11, 1955, she married Walter B. Fitzsimmons, a dentist in Mount Pocono. Florence was an active and long-term member of the former St. Mary of the Mount Catholic Church in Mount Pocono. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She enjoyed playing bridge with her girlfriends, playing golf with her husband Wally and friends and the many summers spent with family in Bethany Beach. She is known for her thoughtfulness and chicken noodle soup. She was preceded in death by her son, Peter M. Fitzsimmons. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son, Walter Fitzsimmons of Indianapolis and his wife, Yvonne Dutton; two daughters, Noralie Williams and her husband, Ron, of Swoyersville, PA, Claire Rittenhouse and her husband, Tod, of Chatham, NJ; Patricia Fitzsimmons (wife of Peter) of Long Branch, NJ; and her grandchildren, Gabrielle Fitzsimmons, Brigette Fitzsimmons, Jackson Williams, Nan Rittenhouse and Rosie Rittenhouse. There will be a viewing on Thursday, February 18 from 4-7pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Friday, February 19 at 9:30 am at the Church of St. Ann, Main Street, Tobyhanna. Entombment will follow at St. Catherine’s Cemetery, Main Street, Moscow.
