Obituary of Muriel M. Peterson

Muriel M. Peterson, 88, of Cresco, died Saturday, Feb. 27, 2016, at home, surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Charles P. “Charley” Peterson, with whom she shared 60 years of marriage before his passing in 2011. Born in Scranton, she was the daughter of the late Walter and Elizabeth (Hughes) Matthews. Muriel was the assistant business manager for the Pocono Mountain School District for many years before retiring. She was a member of the Pocono Mountain Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary for more than 50 years, the past president of the Scranton/Pocono Council of the Girl Scouts of the USA, and a lifetime member of the Mount Pocono United Methodist Church. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy Swiderski of Cresco; her granddaughters, Kristi Swiderski of Orlando, Florida, and Michelle Swiderski of Cresco; her sister-in-law, Jane Matthews of Scranton; many nieces and nephews; and Lena Swiderski, Theresa Manuel, Ann Marie Harris and Roseann Swiderski. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ted Matthews and Don Jenkins. There will be a visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 3, at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco, and at 10 a.m. Friday, March 4, at Mount Pocono United Methodist Church, 12 Church Ave., Mount Pocono. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church, or to the Barrett Paradise Friendly Library, 6500 Route 191, Cresco, PA 18326. Muriel's family would also like to thank Compassionate Care Hospice and Griswold Home Care for their outstanding attention and assistance.
