Obituary of Kathryn Reinhardt

Kathryn (Shaller) Reinhardt, 89, passed at her home in Mountainhome surrounded by family on Friday, April 15, 2016. Kathryn was born on Nov. 12, 1926, the third child of Archie and Jennie Shaller. She was born inside the family home in Mountainhome, which still stands today on Route 390. Kathryn grew up a tomboy along with her three brothers in the small resort community, often helping her dad in his coal and ice hauling business that served the nearby Buck Hill and later the Skytop communities. She attended Barrett High School and graduated during World War II, second in a class of 13. Kathryn went to work at the Woodside Lodge located at the top of Canadensis Hill. Like so many old Barrett Township hotels, the Woodside was lost to fire so many years ago. She eventually met and fell in love with Bob Reinhardt, a Brooklyn, New York native, recently discharged from the Army. They lived modestly for many years, sharing homes with relatives, while husband Bob and his brother, Jack, started a business in the basement of the Reinhardt family home located behind the Mountainhome Diner. Their business, J.A. Reinhardt & Co. continues to operate today as part of the worldwide B/E Aerospace Corp. The couple started a family and built a home in Mountainhome, where Kathryn and Bob raised four children. Kathryn's mission in life was family. She was a Cub Scout den mother, a Sunday school teacher, church treasurer for many years, helped her daughter sell Girl Scout cookies and raised four children while husband Bob spent long hours at work and traveling. She loved being “Mother” and later “Nana” to her seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her life was full of family vacations, holiday gatherings and hosting everyone's birthday party. She even ran a “summer camp” for her grandchildren, as the cousins spent long summer afternoons around Nana's pool. A strong woman with a strong faith in God, she lived life to the fullest and always with a smile on her face. She spent her final days with family and dedicated caregivers in the home she shared with her beloved husband and raised her family. A life well lived. She will be missed. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Robert F. Reinhardt Sr.; her brother, Delmont of Atlanta, Georgia; and her parents. She is survived by her children: Robert Jr. and his wife, Joan, of Oldsmar, Florida; Gary and his wife, Daryl, of Cherry Valley; Donna and her husband, Tim, of Marrietta, Georgia; and Mark and his wife, Susan, of Mountainhome; her brothers, Calvin Shaller of Glenside and Gordon Shaller of Mountainhome; sister-in-law Ann Grandis of Mountainhome; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the dedicated caregivers from Beck 'N Call and VNA Hospice. A memorial service will be private. Private cremation has been entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Kathryn's memory to Mountainhome United Methodist Church, 6680 Route 191, P.O. Box 327, Mountainhome, PA 18342.
