Obituary of Robert C. Fischer

Robert “Sonny” C. Fischer, 82, of Pocono Pines, died, Monday, June 6, 2016, in the same home in which he was born, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Shirley (Sylvainus) Fischer, with whom he shared 56 years of marriage. Born in Pocono Pines, he was the son of the late Otto and Florence (Sansenbach) Fischer. A proud veteran, Sonny served in the U.S. Army. He owned and operated Fischer's Cottages and Fischer Craftmen Inc. in Pocono Pines. As operator of Fischer Craftmen, he had the opportunity to mentor and work alongside of his children and grandchildren, as well as others. He was an active member of Salem United Church of Christ, where he served as past deacon, consistory member, vice president of consistory, and took care of grounds and maintenance. He was a member of the J. Simpson Africa Masonic Lodge Post 628. Sonny enjoyed fishing in both Canada and locally, as well as spending time in his garden. His favorite activity was spending time with his family. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his children: Craig Fischer of Greentown; Jim Saake and his significant other, Lori Izzo, of Whitehall; Sonya Hackenberg and her husband, Robert, of Pocono Pines; and Lisa Erlsten and her husband, Michael, of Pocono Pines; his grandchildren: Sarah Dickinson and her husband, Ken; Asher Hackenberg and his wife, Ashley; Kyle and Brianna Fischer; and Brittany and Makenzie Erlsten; and his great-grandchildren, Aiden and Cameron Dickinson. Robert was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Hoffman. There will be a visitation from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 10, at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. There will be a second visitation from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service Saturday, June 11, at Salem United Church of Christ, 108 Church Street, Pocono Pines. A service will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at the church. Private cremation has been entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
