Obituary of Julian A. Nanton
Julian A. Nanton, 69, of Susquehanna, died on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton.
Born in New York, NY he was the son of Merrill T. Nanton, Jr. and the late Irene Braithwaite.
Studying to be an electrician, he graduated in 1966 of George Westinghouse Vocational & Technical High School in Brooklyn. Julian would go on to serve 30 years of faithful service in the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force he was able to travel the world, which became a passion of his with the result of making genuine lifelong friends. He is a member of the Prince Hall Free & Accepted Masons also The Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite of Freemasonry.
Before retiring he was employed at SCI Waymart as a corrections officer.
In addition to this father, Merrill Jr., he is survived by his only daughter, Denise Nanton and only grandson, Damien Nanton both of Dunmore; sister: Marilyn Earley of Lansing, MI; brother, Merrill Nanton, III of Wilkes-Barre; and his long time companion, Nancy Rumford of Simpson. He also leaves behind Aunt and Uncles & many nephews, nieces, and cousins.
Julian loved fishing, listening to the blues, nature, and phone calls with his friends and traveling to the islands. He cherished his family. He was a true gentleman. He will be missed.
There will be a viewing from 4-7 p.m. Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Reverend Canon Virginia Rex-Day Ret., will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Wednesday, June 22 at Trinity Episcopal Church, 137 Trinity Hill Road, Mount Pocono. Burial will follow at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, 830 Highland Road, Newtown.
