Obituary of Daniel A. Ferguson
Daniel A. Ferguson, 78, of Tobyhanna, died Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at St. Luke's Hospital-Monroe Campus in Bartonsville. He was the loving husband of Frances M. (Rogers) Ferguson, with whom he shared 30 years of marriage.
Born in Bronx, New York, he was a son of the late Milton F. and Mary K. (Dillon) Ferguson.
Daniel was a graduate of St. Benedict's Parish School and St. Helena High School (now Msgr. Scanlon High School) in Bronx, New York. After high school, he attended Westchester Business Institute-Summa Cum Laude in Business Administration and Mercy College-Magna Cum Laude with a B.S. in Marketing. Daniel was a member of Delta Mu Delta, International Honor Society in Business Administration.
He retired as manager from NYNEX Corp (now Verizon Corp), Instructor at Westchester Business Institute (now College of Westchester), and substitute academic teacher at Keystone Job Corps, in Drums. Daniel proudly worked alongside State Representative Mario M. Scavello as Chief of Staff and later served as a Legislative Aide to State Senator Scavello.
He was of the Catholic Faith and a member of Most Holy Trinity Parish. In addition, he was a proud member of many organizations, including, President of Monroe County Advisory Council for Office of Aging, former Secretary of Support Services for Seniors, Inc., Vice Chairman of Monroe County Municipal Waste Management Authority, Vice Chairman of Monroe County Planning Commission, former President and present Treasurer of Mushroom Farm P.O.A., former Vice Chairman of Coolbaugh Township Planning Commission, former Chairman of Coolbaugh Township Environmental Advisory Council, member of the Monroe County Environmental Center, former Chairman of the Board and present Treasurer of Pocono Mountain Arts Council, past President of Telecom Pioneer's Club, former Life Representative of L.H. Kinnard Telecom Pioneer Chapter, Past Grand Knight New Amsterdam Council No. 217 Knights of Columbus, member St. John Paul II Council No. 4157, member 4th Degree No. 981 Knights of Columbus, Past Exalted Ruler New York Lodge No. 1 B.P.O. Elks, member of the East Stroudsburg Lodge No. 319 B.P.O Elks, Past State Trustee New York State Elks Association, Past Vice President New York State Elks Association, and Former Vice President of the Bonsai Society of Greater New York.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Denise Ferguson of Ronkonkoma, New York, Karen M. Corsini and her husband, Ernest of Ronkonkoma, New York; son, Daniel J. Ferguson of Los Angeles, California; brothers, Joseph F. Ferguson and his wife, Pat of Melbourne, Florida, Robert E. Ferguson and his wife, Dorothy of Croton-on-Hudson, New York; grandchildren, Michael E. Moreno of Mt. Sinai, New York, Jacqueline R., Victoria A. and Nicholas E. Corsini all of Ronkonkoma, New York.
There will be a viewing from 2 to 6 pm Sunday, November 6, 2016 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Reverend Father Gregory Loughney will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. Monday, November 7 at St. Ann's Church, Main Street, Tobyhanna.
