Obituary of Helen Mercer

Helen Louise Mercer, 82, known affectionately to friends as Toni, of Buck Hill Falls, passed away peacefully Friday morning, January 13 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was born in Atlanta, Georgia and attended the University of Georgia before moving to New York City. She was a graduate of the Fashion Institute in New York and worked for a time as a Wall Street broker before finding her calling in the art world. Toni was an art dealer for New York galleries and formed private collections of 19th and 20th century masters for private clients. She moved to Buck Hill Falls in 1986. Toni was co-owner of Odyssey Books and Antiques in Mountainhome with her friend of over thirty years, Geanne Loveless. Toni was a champion lawn bowler and winner of many awards, including a United States Championship medal in the 1980's, when she was captain of the winning rinks team. In addition to her friend, Geanne Loveless, she is survived by a brother, Charles Mercer and his wife, Patricia of Atlanta, GA, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances and Joan. There will be a viewing on Tuesday, January 17 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home in Cresco. The Reverend George Alt will conduct a funeral service at 3:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Private cremation is entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
