Obituary of Mary M. Bell
Mary (Matyas) Bell, age 103, formerly of Palmer Township, passed away Wednesday morning, April 19, 2017 at Mrs. Bush's Personal Care Home in Kunkletown, where she was a resident.
Mary was born March 8, 1914 in Easton, the oldest of three children, to the late Charles and Elizabeth (Marko) Matyas.
She attended Wilson High School in Easton, where she was the chief organizer and instructor for the first ballroom dance classes. After graduating, Mary worked at Bush & Bull's Department Store on Northampton Street in Easton. During WWII, Mary worked at General Aniline and Film Corporation in photographic research. Later, once her son was born, she worked from home for Breyers Ice Cream, and then in the cafeteria of Easton High School. Mary married Richard G. Bell in 1947 and they enjoyed life together until his passing on March 10, 1992. Mary had a strong interest in art and enjoyed painting still life, local scenery, and ceramics; pieces that will continue to be treasured by her family. She was an active member of St. Mark's United Church of Christ in Easton which later became New Creation United Church of Christ of Palmer Township. Mary was a beautiful and kind person who always cherished good times with family and friends.
She is survived by her son, Richard J. Bell and his wife, Brenda of Canadensis; her two nieces and four nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her sister, Julia Evely and brother, James Matyas.
In lieu of cards and remembrances, the family wishes that you spend a little extra quality time with friends, family, and pets in honor of her life and memory.
Graveside service and interment is planned for a future date at Northampton Memorial Shrine in Palmer Township. Private cremation has been entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
