Obituary of Michael J. Shimko

Michael J. Shimko, 91, Tobyhanna, died Wednesday, May 3, at Scranton Health Care Center in Scranton. He was the loving husband of the late Irene (Krenitski) Shimko, who died in 2012.

Born in Tobyhanna, he was a son of the late John and Elizabeth (Bolak) Shimko.

After serving in the US Navy, Michael owned and operated a gas station and body shop in Tobyhanna for many years. He later worked for Pocono Mountain School District as a bus driver and janitor.

He is survived by his daughters, Michalene Frederick and husband Bruce of Pocono Pines, and Mary Skierski and husband Stephen of Scott Township; sisters Helen Freach of Pocono Summit, and Julie Hay of St. Petersburg, FL; grandchildren Christopher Raymond, Danielle Raymond, and Stephen Skierski; and many nieces and nephews. Michael was preceded in death by his siblings Anna Konopka, Elizabeth Scheithe, Mary McGreevy, Sue Whelan, and John Shimko.

There will be a viewing from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, May 7 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Reverend Father Gregory Loughney will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30a.m. Monday, May 8 at the Church of St. Ann, 1 Main Street, Tobyhanna. Burial will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.
