Obituary of Julia "Judy" Cortez

Julia "Judy" Cortez, 89, of Pocono Lake, died peacefully on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at the Lehigh Valley Pocono Hospice House in East Stroudsburg. She was the loving wife of the late Fabian Cortez, Sr. with whom she shared 62 years of marriage.

Born in Philadelphia, she was a daughter to the late William and Helene (Shaw) Sherwood.

A member of the Pocono Lake United Methodist Church, Judy lovingly committed her time to the United Methodist Women and her church family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who adored her family and the memories she shared with them. She was also an active member of the community and dedicated over 20 years of service to meals on wheels. Her son's remember her as an active mom always involved in their activities most memorable was her time as a Boy Scout mom.

After retirement, she and Fabian enjoyed traveling the world, often visiting family in the Philippines and England. She also found enjoyment knitting and sewing in her older years.

Judy is survived by four sons, Fabian Cortez Jr., of Southampton, PA, Richard "Jay" Cortez of Philadelphia, Robert Cortez and Thomas Cortez, both of Pocono Lake; 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. 
A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 19 at 6:00 pm at the Pocono Lake United Methodist Church, Route 940 Pocono Lake. A visitation will be held from 5:00 pm until the time of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in honor of, Judy may be made to the Pocono Lake United Methodist Church, 1188 Route 940, Pocono Lake, PA 18347.

Private cremation has been entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
