Obituary of Waldimar E. Directie
Waldimar E. Directie, 73, of Long Pond, died Wednesday, June 14, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem. He was the loving husband of Joyce (Strijk) Directie with whom he shared 42 years together.
Born in Paramaribo Suriname, South America, he was a son of the late Walter Frederick and Erna (Lieuw-A-Soe) Directie.
Waldimar was an Ironworker by trade and foreman for Local 40 in Manhattan. As a member of the Local 40 Union, he became a first responder during September 11th. Waldimar was a sport fanatic and at one time was a member of the Robinhood National Football "soccer" team in Suriname. He loved the Poconos and spent the last 17 years living in Long Pond. Walsimar had a passion for food and liked to cook. He was extremely jovial, he loved life, and enjoyed lending a helping hand to whoever was in need.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Sherida, Nancy, Ednadia Randy, Alide and like a father to Jenifer, Joan, Derrel and Sharif; Son-in-laws, Sharlon, Ricardo, Nico, Derick and Ivan; daughter-in-law: Natalie; brother, Ferdie; sister, Garda; 13 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
There will be a viewing from 3 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 21 at the Seventh-day Adventist Church, 2085 West Main Street, Stroudsburg. Funeral services will begin at 5 p.m. at the church.
Private cremation is entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
