Obituary of Richard J. Maylander

Richard J. Maylander, 89, of Pocono Manor, Pennsylvania, died Wednesday, September 6, 2017 at Lehigh Valley Pocono Hospice House in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. He was the loving husband of Kathleen McCarthy, with whom he shared 24 years of marriage.

Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, he was the son of the late Lewis and Edna (Grube) Maylander.

Richard was a graduate of the University of West Virginia, and served as a Lieutenant JG in the United States Navy during the Korean War. At the start of his career in advertising, he worked for several Ad agencies on Madison Avenue in New York. Later, Richard went into advertising sales at Time Inc., first working for Life Magazine, then Sports Illustrated, and finally TIME magazine. He retired in 1988.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Scott Maylander of Acton, Massachusetts, MacDonald Maylander of Princeton, New Jersey, Heather Maylander of Princeton, New Jersey, Noelle Maylander Schwartz of Seattle, Washington and grandchildren, Nicholas, Alec, and Kate Maylander of Acton, Massachusetts.

There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, September 12 at St. Maximilian Kolbe Parish, 5112 Pocono Crest Road, Pocono Pines, Pennsylvania. The Reverend Father Sean Carpenter will celebrate a memorial Mass at 11 a.m. at the church.
