Obituary of Marsha W. Johnson

 Marsha W. Johnson, of Sarasota, and Buck Hill Falls, Pennsylvania, died Sunday, November 5, 2017 at St. Luke's Hospice House in Bethlehem. She was the loving wife of Richard Johnson, with whom she shared 51 years of marriage.


Born in Norristown, Pennsylvania, she was a daughter of the late Marshall and Frances (Wolfe) Wright.  Marsha attended Springside Academy and was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in English.

Marsha spent 30 years making a home for her family in numerous countries throughout Asia. She was a consumate volunteer in every country where they lived.  Throughout the years, she gave her time to multiple groups from the Jim Thompson House in Bangkok, International Ladies Benevolent Society in Tokyo and the Buck Hill-Skytop Music Festival in PA to name a few.


After retirement, she settled in Sarasota, and spent her summers in Buck Hill Falls, Pa. Marsha was an enthusiastic supporter of Sarasota's ballet and opera which brought her great joy.  Her hobbies were numerous, in addition to gardening and sewing, she loved cooking, reading, golf and always the NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle. 


Marsha was a talented quilter and seamstress and lovingly sewed children's clothes, doll clothes and anything that captured her imagination.  Every year she donated boxes of her beautiful creations to her local children's hospital. 


Together, Marsha and Richard were passionate and adventurous travelers, visiting a breathtaking number of countries and truly experiencing all that life has to offer.  The loved they shared will live forever.


 In addition to her husband, she leaves behind to forever treasure her memory, her sons, Nicholas Johnson and his wife, Kirsten of Madison, David Johnson of Brooklyn, New York; sister, Leslie Thomas of Nokomis; brother-in-law, Jim Johnson and his husband, Paul Dobrea of Fort Lauderdale; three grandchildren, Campbell, Cole, and Caroline.

A service will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 300 Shunpike Rd. Chatham Township, NJ 07928 on November 18th at 11 a.m..

Marsha spent 30 years living in various countries throughout Asia with Richard. After retirement, she settled in Sarasota, Florida, and spent her summers in Buck Hill Falls. Marsha loved her Buck Hill gardens and enjoyed Sarasota’s ballet and opera.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sons, Nicholas Johnson and his wife, Kirsten of Madison, New Jersey, David Johnson of Brooklyn, New York; sister, Leslie Thomas of Nokomis, Florida; brother-in-law, Jim Johnson and his husband, Paul Dobrea of Fort Lauderdale, Florida; three grandchildren, Campbell, Cole, and Caroline all of Madison, New Jersey.

A service will be held at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Chatham Township, New Jersey 07928 at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 18th.
