Obituary of Joseph J. Gioia

Joseph J. Gioia, 86, of Stroudsburg, formerly of Long Pond, died Tuesday, January 30, 2018 at Grace Park in Stroudsburg. He was the loving husband of Clara (Pehling) Gioia, with whom he shared 65 years of marriage.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was the son of the late Antonino and Rosaria (Balduccio) Gioia.

A proud Veteran, Joseph served with the United States Army. He graduated from Pace College and worked as an accountant for several corporations and retired to the Poconos. Joe was a devout Catholic.  He was very active at St. Mary of the Mount parish including being a Eucharistic minister.  In addition to being very family oriented, Joe was extremely community oriented. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and volunteered for several years doing tax returns for VITA and AARP.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Diane Lopez of Staten Island, New York and Janice Hutsler and her husband, Cliff of Islip Terrace, New York; grandchildren, Lynn, Emily, Eric, and James.

There will be a visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, February 2 at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 818 Main Street, Stroudsburg. A memorial Mass will begin at 11 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at St. Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow.

Private cremation has been entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
