Obituary of David G. Tipka

 

David G. Tipka, 81, of Stroudsburg, passed away Thursday, February 1, 2018 at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Liris (Barton) Tipka.

Born in Wilmington, Delaware, on October 27, 1936, he was a son of the late James S. and Catherine (O'Connor) Tipka.

David graduated from St. Mary's Academy in Glen Falls, New York. He attended La Salle University where he acquired a B.S. Degree in Chemistry. David never lost his thirst for knowledge and attended various universities throughout his life including the University of Pennsylvania, Temple University, Villanova University, Immaculata University, East Stroudsburg University, and Northampton Community College.

David had an unending quest for adventure, which led him to hike the Appalachian Trail and complete a 500 mile bicycle ride from Montreal, Canada to Portland, Maine, to raise money for AIDS research. He also participated in the Philadelphia Live Strong Challenge bike ride and more recently took a glider ride just for fun.

He was a kind and loving father and grandfather with a wicked sense of humor who especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Adrienne Driscoll, Jennifer Tipka;two sons, stepson, Geoffrey Hyde and his wife, Lani; stepdaughter, Calista Hyde; grandchildren, Erin and Skylar Driscoll, Grace Sykes; Step grandchildren, Ross Spurling and Chelsea Yeaton, Darby Hyde; step great-grandchild, Harper Yeaton; sister, Karen Tipka and sister-in-law, Peta-Lynn Fulton. In addition to his parents, David was preceded in death by his brother, James M. Tipka and brother-in-law, William E. Fulton. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, PO Box 22718, Oklahoma City, OK 73123-1718.

There will no services at this time, a private ceremony with family will take place at a later date. Cremation has been entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
