Obituary of Dr. Lorraine Hamel

Dr. Lorraine Hamel, 55, of Cresco, died unexpectedly, Wednesday, Feb. 28, 2018 in Cresco. She was the loving wife of Dr. Michael J. Bone, with whom she shared 26 years.

Born in Danville, she was a daughter of Dr. Coleman Hamel of Bethlehem and the late Elsie (Woodruff) Hamel.

Lorraine graduated from Liberty High School in 1980, received her Bachelors degree from Lehigh University in 1984 , and her DMD from Temple University in 1988. Dr. Hamel owned and operated her own dental practice in Pocono Summit for over 25 years. She was a member of the American Dental Association, and the Monroe County Dental Association, where she served as president for one year. Lorraine was a member of Most Holy Trinity Parish, where she served as Cantor for many years. In addition to cross word puzzles, Lorraine loved reading, running, quilting, cooking, traveling, and attending her children’s sporting events.

In addition to her husband, and father, she is survived by her son, Michael Bone Jr. of Cresco; her daughter, Allison Bone of Cresco; sisters, Attorney Virginia Hamel-Kretschman and her husband, Christopher of Glenside, and Dr. Marianne Hamel of Bethlehem; father and mother-in-law, James and Tina Bone of West Pittston; and her three nephews, Paul, David and Christopher Jr. Kretschman of Glenside.

There will be a viewing from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, March 4 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. Rev. Fr. Gregory Loughtney will conduct a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Monday, March 5 at Our Lady of Victory, 327 Cherry Lane Rd, Tannersville, PA. 

Lorraine was struck by a drunk driver while jogging, in lieu of flowers her family would like memorial donations to be made to, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, by visiting madd.org.
