Obituary of Emily Hopkins

Emily Mae Burton Hopkins, 92, of Mount Pocono, died Friday, June 22, 2018 at Brookmont Health Care Center in Effort.

Born in Hazleton, Pennsylvania, on May 21, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Jacob and Martha (Sauers) Burton of West Hazleton, and sister to the late Louis and Willard Burton of Hazleton, as well as twin sister to the late Earl Burton.

Emily worked at Pocono Mountain School District for many years until her retirement. She found love and happiness with her first husband, John Mundy, and spent much of her time helping him with his painting business. After his death, Emily spent time missing him, but God guided her to new happiness, allowing her to make memories and travel with her second husband James F. Hopkins whom she lovingly took care of after his stroke. After his passing, Emily spent her time treasuring her home, working outside, mowing grass, and cleaning. God was a large part of her life and she believed that no matter what happened, God would be guiding her through each path; she prayed every single day for peace and comfort.  In addition to her love of God, Emily adored children.

Emily is leaving behind her special friends, Diane Sblendono and Paul Fisher; her cousin, Donna J. McDonnell; her adopted family, Doris Frailey, of Swiftwater, and her daughters, Tammy Shearer and Tina Albert. Emily was preceded in death by her good friend Francis Frailey.

A viewing will be held on Wednesday, June 27 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Mount Pocono United Methodist Church, 12 Church Ave., Mount Pocono.  A service will be held in the church at 11 a.m., officiated by Rev. Kofi Ashley. Burial will follow at Laurelwood Cemetery in Stroudsburg.
