Obituary of Anna M Cavanaugh

Anna M. Cavanaugh, 81, of Tobyhanna, died Tuesday, July 3, 2018 at home. She was the loving wife of the late Robert Cavanaugh, whom she married in 1956.

Born in Queens, New York, she was a daughter of the late August and Marie (Majan) Berger.

After graduating from Bishop McDonnell High School, Anna worked in the New York City Department of Sanitation for 20 years. She raised her family in Queens and then retired to the Poconos where she was very active in the community. She was in the Red Hat Club for five years and was a volunteer for the Retired Senior Volunteer Program for 10 years. Anna was a member of the Church of St. Ann’s and helped as a six year member of the Women’s Guild. She was a community leader in Pocono Country Place and was actively involved in the senior group, the recreational and scholarship committees, and was president of the Garden and Craft Club. Anna was a dedicated volunteer for the Monroe County Agency on Aging Advisory Council for four years and was the 2011 recipient of the Helen G. Brown Quality of Life Award.

Anna is survived by her son, Brian Cavanaugh and his wife, Suanne, of Tobyhanna; daughters, Susan Guastella and her husband, Frank, of Pocono Pines and Peggy Russo and her husband, Frank, of Phillipsburg, New Jersey; daughter-in-law, Terry Cavanaugh of Hawley; sister, Bernadette Bruno with whom she resided. Also, grandchildren: Robert, Jennifer, Steven, Ryan, Deidre, Brian, Taylor, Dustin, Amanda, Frank, and Shannon; 11 great-grandchildren; and many loving nieces and nephews. Anna was preceded in death by her brother, Raymond Berger, and son, Robert Cavanaugh.

There will be a viewing from 3 to 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 6 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. The Rev. Fr. Gregory Loughney will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 7 at St. Ann’s Church, Main Street, Tobyhanna.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the PCP Scholarship fund, c/o Community Manager, 1 Recreation Drive, Tobyhanna, PA 18466.

Private cremation is entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
