Obituary of William Riede

William “Bill” Riede, 79, of Cherry Valley, New York, died Thursday, August 2, 2018 at Mary Imogene Bassett Hospital in Cooperstown Village, New York. He was the loving husband of Barbara Price Haddon, whom he married in 2002.

Born in Brooklyn, New York, he was a son of the late Winfield and Helene (Blagnies) Riede.  

William married Mary Cangelosi in 1958 and later moved to the Poconos in 1979, working for Roadway as a truck driver. He later opened B&M excavating company in the 1980s. After the passing of his first wife, he met Barbara and moved to Cherry Valley, New York, where they decided to pursue their dream of having a farm and raising race horses. They bred horses for the Saratoga Racetrack and had many successful and happy years with their animals.

William is survived by sons; Billy Riede of Mountainhome; Bobby Riede of Snydersville; daughter: Lori Tietjen and her husband, John of Cresco; brother: John Riede and his wife, Linda of Staten Island, New York; stepchildren: Kristen, Blake, and Jeffery Haddon; grandchildren: Brandon, Samantha, Michael, Jonathan, Bobby J; great granddaughter: Harlow.

There will be a viewing from 3 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 7, at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. Pastor Kenneth Cathcart will conduct a memorial blessing at 6:15 p.m. Burial will follow on Wednesday, August 8, at 11:30 in Kensico Cemetery, 273 Lakeview Ave., Valhalla, New York 10595.
