Obituary of Gordon David Hughes, Jr.

Gordon David Hughes, Jr., 80, of Paradise Valley, Cresco, Pa., passed away peacefully at home Monday, August 27, 2018 with the love of his life, his beloved wife Mary Ann by his side. His wife is the former Mary Ann Kresge and they celebrated their 35^th wedding anniversary on July 10, 2018. Gordon was a wonderful loving husband and all around good man.

He was preceded in death by his parents Gordon D. Hughes Sr. and Alice Hughes and Delores (Reiley) Beynon, as well as his beloved mother-in-law, Katie Kresge who loved him like a son.

In addition to his wife he is survived by her family, whom he loved dearly and who all loved him. He is also survived by Gary L. Pope Jr. who he loved like a son and Gary’s fiancée, Courtney Tigue; a cousin who was like a sister to him, Sandra Zelno and her husband, Nick and their daughter, Sherri, of Pittsburgh, who was his goddaughter. He is survived by his sister, Martha Neary and her husband, Tom of Kutztown, his brother Eugene Hughes and his wife, Kathy; his sister, Nancy Hodanich and her husband, Mike of Scranton; and his several nieces and nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and dear friends near and far.

A proud Veteran, Gordon served in the United States Army and fought during the Vietnam War. After 20 years of service, he retired as Master Sergeant. Gordon was a member of the Wilson Fischer Post 413 of the American Legion in Pocono Pines.

There will be a visitation from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, September 16 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. Pastor Kenneth Cathcart will conduct a memorial service at 3 p.m. at the funeral home. Military honors will follow with Alex Metzgar playing taps. Interment will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, September 17 at St. Paul's Cemetery, 406 Upper Swiftwater Road, Swiftwater.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 406 Upper Swiftwater Road, Swiftwater, PA 18370.

Private cremation has been entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
