Obituary of Gerald Paul Grzywacz

Gerald “Jerry” Paul Grzywacz, 70, died Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at Edgehill Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Glenside. He was the loving husband of Karen (Eckenrode) Grzywacz of Philadelphia.

Born in Carbondale, son of the late Frank and Genevieve (Soya) Grzywacz, Jerry grew up in Mayfield. He graduated from the University of Scranton. He worked for Fannie Mae in Washington, DC, before a 30-plus-year career with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. He retired as a Director of Field Accounting for the Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry.

Jerry was a true family man and devoted to his wife and children. He loved nothing more than playing sports with his kids and taking them to sporting events and family vacations at the Jersey Shore. He enjoyed playing golf, collecting golf memorabilia; playing poker, antiquing, camping, music, and hiking with the family dog Seamus. He was a member of the former Saint Mary of the Mount Church in Mount Pocono.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children: Wendy Ramunno and her husband, Ross, of Philadelphia; Gerry Grzywacz, Jr., and his wife, Carla, of Haddonfield, New Jersey; Dan Grzywacz and his wife, Amanda, of Andover, Massachusetts; Brian Grzywacz, of New York, New York; Matthew Grzywacz, and his wife, Katie Bolton, of Richmond, Virginia; and Brendan Grzywacz, of Philadelphia; grandchildren Santina Ramunno, Alessandra Ramunno, Will Grzywacz, Caroline Grzywacz, Mila Grzywacz and Esme Grzywacz; brother Robert Grant of Geneva, Illinois;  and numerous sisters- and brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his son, Timothy.  

There will be a viewing from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, October 7 at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. Reverend Father Gregory Loughney will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial at 10 a.m. Monday, October 8 at Villa of Our Lady Retreat House, 245 Meadowside Road, Mount Pocono. Interment will be private.


Jerry’s family is grateful for the wonderful care provided by the Edgehill Nursing staff over the past five years.
