Obituary of Rita Bonny

Rita T. Bonny, 81, of Stroudsburg, died on Saturday, February 25, 2012 in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of the late Robert Bonny. Prior to living at Hillcrest Retirement Assisted Living in Stroudsburg, she had been a resident of Tobyhanna and then Englewood FL. Born on June 21, 1930 she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Margaret (Gleoggler) O'Hara of Tobyhanna. While residing in Tobyhanna, she was an active participant of the Tobyhanna-Newfoundland International Lion's Club. In addition, she was one of the first women paramedics to serve Monroe County, having volunteered service in both the Pocono Central Ambulance Co. and then Coolbaugh Ambulance Co. She was an active member of St. Ann's Church in Tobyhanna. She was owner and operator of Bonny's General Store in Tobyhanna. She also opened and operated Bonny's Fabric and Yarn. After retiring from the retail businesses, she became the office manager for the Redemptorist Priests of St. Alphonsus Retreat House in Tobyhanna. She continued to work at St. Alphonsus until she retired with her husband , Robert, to Englewood, FL. In Florida she remained an active member of the Englewood Lion's Club. She served as a volunteer at the local community hospital as well as a volunteer at the Englewood Library. That Library presented her an award recognizing her volunteer service for over 1000 hours. She has been an avid Lions Club Pin Trader. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting and reading. She is survived by two daughters: Theresa Storm and her husband Stanley of Stroudsburg, Lynn Kelly of Tobyhanna; a sister: Marge (O'Hara) Kelly of Clark Summit; four grandchildren: Scott Storm of Media, Michael Storm of Stroudsburg, Megan Kelly of Tobyhanna, Sean Kelly of Tobyhanna and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter: Patricia Gaige. There will be a visitation on Saturday, March 3 from 1 to 3 pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road in Cresco. Reverend Jon Hall will conduct a memorial service at 3pm at the funeral home.
