Obituary of Eileen C. May

Eileen C. May, 86, of Cresco, died Thursday, Nov. 22, 2018, at her home. She was the loving wife of the late Frederick C. May, with whom she shared 49 years of marriage.

Born in Manhasset, New York, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Arthur and Eusebia (Bank) Cowley.

During high school and college, Eileen spent her summers in New Hampshire as a camp counselor teaching horseback riding. She attended Manhasset High School and Oswego State Teachers College in Oswego, New York. Eileen moved to New Castle, Delaware, where she became an elementary teacher and met Frederick who was also a teacher. In 1979, Eileen retired from teaching and fulfilled her dream of living in the country when she moved to the Poconos. She then worked in the office of several local resorts and was involved in various church and community organizations, most recently being part of the Barrett Historical Society, as well as a member of the choir at St. Bernadette’s Catholic Church. Her biggest passion in life was helping animals in need. She spent many years rescuing and caring for all types of animals and had a special passion for horses.

Eileen is survived by her daughter, Patricia Price of Cresco; a brother, Dr. Michael Cowley and his wife, Sharon, of Healdsburg, California; her brother-in-law, Bruce Pickerling of Eustis, Florida; grandchildren: Cody Price of Cresco and Sarah Price of East Stroudsburg; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Eileen was predeceased in death by her sister, Clair Pickering.

There will be a visitation from 4 to 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. A blessing service will be held at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. The family would like you to join them at the farmhouse following the service for refreshments.
