Obituary of Louis Newman

Louis F. Newman, 86, of Tobyhanna, formally of Woodside NY, died Tuesday, May 1 2012 at Veterans Medical Center in Wilkes-Barre. He was the husband of the late Catherine E. (Loughlin) Newman. Born on December 5, 1925 in New York, New York, he was the son of the late Louis Newman and Alice (Cooper) Newman. Louis had been a resident of the Poconos since 1977. Louis served as a Private First Class (TA)(L) in the United States Marine Corp. He served in the Central and Southwest Pacific Area from 1944-1945. While in the Marines he was awarded the Purple Heart. He belonged to the Disabled American Vets, VFW in Tobyhanna, PA. Before his retirement Louis had been employed as a Truck Driver for the McLean Trucking Company. He was also a member of St. Ann's Church in Tobyhanna. Louis is survived by two sister- in- laws, Elizabeth Amelia Cirner of Toms River, NJ and Mary Everdell of Woodside, NY; two nephews; Kevin Everdell, Steve Cirner, and one niece; Marilyn Baker. Along with his wife, Catherine, he was preceded in death by a son, Michael; and a brother, Paul. There will be a viewing on Friday, May 4 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco, PA 18326. The Reverend Father Joseph Kopacz will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5 at St. Ann's Church in Tobyhanna. Private cremation will follow at the funeral home.
