Obituary of Albert Weller
ALBERT ERNEST WELLER Albert Ernest Weller , 94, of Tobyhanna, died Sunday August 12, 2012, at the VNA Hospice House in East Stroudsburg, PA. He and his beloved wife, Edythe (Ludwigson), were married 64 years and enjoyed a full and happy life together. Born in 1918 in Bronx, New York, Albert was the son of the late Ernest and Amelia (Strasser) Weller and brother of the late Robert Weller, who he loved dearly. Albert was a World War II Veteran, who served in the United States Army from August, 1941 - January, 1946 and the Reserves until April, 1953. He was a Captain and Instructor in the 515th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 13th Airborne Division and received a Certificate of Merit as Superior Instructor in Elementary Map and Aerial Photograph Reading.
After WWII, Albert graduated Magna Cum Laude from New York University, where he later received an MBA. He, subsequently, spent his working career in the printing business.
Before his retirement, Albert was the President of Manufacturing and Sales for Rudco Industries in Paramus, NJ. Because of his reputation as a premier expert in magnetic ink check printing, he continued to work as a consultant until 82 years of age. His strong work ethic, his honesty and integrity, his natural sense of fairness, and the respect he always showed for his associates at all levels, were well known throughout the industry.
Albert was always active in his Church, which included teaching, Superintendent of Sunday School, Choir Director and sharing a love of singing with his wife in several church choirs and the Lutheran Choral Society in Bergen County, NJ, where he was also a tenor soloist. He was an active member of the Mount Pocono United Methodist Church for 22 years, where he served as Lay Leader and frequently conducted Adult Bible Studies. He was a prior member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Glen Rock, NJ, for 24 years and Our Savior Lutheran Church in Fair Lawn, NJ, for 16 years. His faith in God was the center of his life which was evident by his character and generosity, especially to those in need.
Beside his love for opera, classical and church music, Albert had a passion for exercise and running which kept him fit and youthful into his 90's. He enjoyed golfing with his wife, his buddies, his sons, grandsons and sons-in-law at the Pocono Farms Country Club where he resided. He also enjoyed a life-long passion for reading and learning and had a keen interest in politics at the national and local levels.
In addition to his wife Edythe, he is survived by two sons: Thomas and his wife, Susan, of Ringwood, NJ; John and his wife, Kate, of Ringwood, NJ; two daughters: Judith Gallucci and her husband, Michael, of Mountain Top, PA; Linda Ince and her husband, Stephen, of Christiansburg, VA; and two grandsons: Matthew and Michael Weller. A Memorial Service will be held Sunday, August 19, at 3 pm at Mount Pocono United Methodist Church in Mount Pocono, PA. The family will be available in the church lounge, beginning at 2 pm, to receive visitors who would like to express their condolences prior to the service. Internment will be private at the George Washington Memorial Cemetery, Paramus, NJ, at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, if preferred, memorial contributions may be made to the VNA Hospice of Monroe County, 502 VNA Road, East Stroudsburg, PA 18301. Donations may also be made to one of his favorite charities: Children of Vietnam, Smile Train, Doctors without Borders or Jews for Jesus.
