Obituary of Carmella Shollenberger

Carmella Mildred "Millie" Shollenberger (September 28, 1933 - September 27, 2012) Carmella Mildred (Millie) Shollenberger, 78, of Swiftwater, died Thursday, September 27. 2012, at VNA Hospice House of Monroe County. She was the loving wife of Allen Shollenberger. They were married for 57 years. Born in Phillipsburg, N.J., she was the daughter of the late Patrick and Anna (Ganguzza) DiPietro. Millie graduated from East Stroudsburg State College in 1954, with a B.S. degree in Elementary Education. After teaching for two years, she became a stay at home mom and cared for her children until they went to school. In the late 60's, she attended Marywood College and became certified to teach Special Education. Her passion for helping Special Education students learn carried her through the remainder of her teaching career. She taught for Intermediate Unit #20, until retirement in 1991. After retirement she and her husband became "snowbirds" and spent the winter months in Hobe Sound, Florida. Millie was an excellent bridge player and spent many hours on the golf course with her friends. She was also an active member of the Pennsylvania Association of School Retirees. In addition to her husband, Allen, she is also survived by a son: Timothy Allen Shollenberger and wife Marissa of Mechanicsburg, Pa; three daughters: Sueann Tupy of Alexandria, Va. , Sandi Carter and husband Marc of Bangor, Pa., Allyn Feeman of Harrisburg, Pa.; one brother: Anthony DiPietro and wife Joyce of Milford, DE; nine grandchildren: Melody, John Allen, Melissa, Stephen, Ryan, Anna, Adam, Jessica and Holly; one great-grandchild: Benjamin. There will be a visitation on Monday, October 1 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road in Cresco, Pa. The Reverend Father Carmen Perry will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, October 2 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Victory Church, 327 Cherry Lane Road, Tannersville, Pa. 18372. Burial will follow at Prospect Cemetery, 501 Prospect Street, East Stroudsburg, Pa. 18301. In lieu of flowers, Millie's family request donations be made to VNA-Hospice House of Monroe County, 502 Independence Road, East Stroudsburg, Pa. 18301
