Obituary of Charles Sofia
Charles P. Sofia (April 20. 1922 - October 15, 2012)
Charles P. Sofia, 90, of Tobyhanna, died Monday, October 15, 2012 at his home. He was the devoted husband of Olga (Kotash) Sofia and were married 63 years.
Born in Mahattan, NY, he was the son of the late Michael and Louise (Hoffman)Sofia.
Charles and Olga raised their eight children in Hackensack, NJ, prior to moving to the Pocono's in 1987. He retired as a department manager of service shipping from Prentice-Hall Publishing Co. in Englewood Cliffs, NJ. Charles serviced in the United States Army serving in World War II stationed in France, Germany, Africa and Aleutian Islands. He was a 20 year member of the American Legion Evan Blitz Post 922. He was a 30 year parishioner of the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hackensack, NJ. He was a founder of the St. Vincent DePaul's Society for that parish. He was also a 25 year parishioner of St. Mary of the Mount, Mount Pocono. He served on the Board of Directors for Pocono Farms East for 22 years. Charles worked six days a week to support his family, but always found time to spend with his children. He was a 10 year little league coach for his sons. He truly enjoyed golf, bowling and baseball, playing the game while in the army. He was a loyal Yankee's fan.
In addition to his wife Olga, he is survived by five sons: Paul Sofia and wife Linda of Tobyhanna; Thomas Sofia and wife Joanne of Howell, NJ; Mark Sofia and his wife Suze of Barnegat, NJ; David Sofia of Tobyhanna and Michael Sofia and wife Kathleen of Tobyhanna; two daughters: Nanette Piccirillo and husband John of Tobyhanna, Annette Healy and husband Sean of Hackensack, NJ; brother: Joseph Sofia; three sisters: Catherine Bowerman, Marion Dobkin and Joan Martini. He was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Charles Michael Sofia. He left his family with many happy memories.
There will be a visitation on Wednesday, October 17, from 6:00 - 8:30 pm at the Bolock Funeral Home & Crematory, 6148 Paradise Valley Rd., Cresco, Pa. 18326. The Rev. Father Gregory Loughney will celebrate a Mass of Christian burial at 9:45 am Thursday, October 18, at St. Mary of the Mount Church, 27 Fairview Ave. Mt. Pocono, Pa.
