Obituary of Alice Carlson
Alice Lillian Carlson (nee Retzlaff) passed away at her home in Canadensis, PA., on October 21, 2012 at the age or 105.
Alice was born in Aneta, North Dakota on January 4, 1907. She graduated from the Aneta High School and received a Bachelor's degree from The University of North Dakota.
After graduation she moved to New York City where she worked at Columbia University Teacher's College until she married in 1935. Alice is predeceased by her husband Arnold W. Carlson, a former Vice President and Controller of Time Inc., who died in 1985 in New York City.
Alice became a Craft Member of the Historical Society of Early American Decoration in 1965 and remained active until well into her 90's. As an artist, stencilling trays was her favorite medium and she won several awards for her beautiful work at juried exhibitions within the organization. She lived in New York City until 2009 when she moved into her weekend home in Canadensis, PA.
Alice is survived by her sister-in-law Helga Retzlaff of Aneta, North Dakota and seven nieces and nephews.
Cremation services were entrusted to Bolock Funeral Home and Crematory. The Memorial Gathering planned for Saturday, November 3, 2012, at Buck Hill Golf Club has been cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy.
