Obituary of Mary Hedges

Mary E. (Nardo) Hedges, 86, of Mt. Pocono, died Saturday, February 12 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. She was the wife of Joseph A. Hedges, Jr. Born in Venice, Italy, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Italia (Morosutti) Nardo. Mary was a graduate of Phillipsburg High School Class of 1942. She worked as a sewing machine operator at Kasover Pants Factory in Easton and then for the Strong Wear Pants Factory. In 1971, Mary along with her husband Joseph, moved to Mt. Pocono to manage the Sheridan Manor Inn (now Bailey's Steakhouse) in Mt. Pocono. Prior to retiring Mary worked for Kmart in Mt. Pocono for seven years. She was a member of St. Mary of the Mount Church in Mt. Pocono, the Red Hat Society, the B. Gregory Krummell Memorial VFW Post 3448 Ladies Auxiliary in Tobyhanna, the Moonlighters Club in Phillipsburg, NJ, American Legion Evans-Blitz Post 922 in Canadensis and Bernardine-May Post 457 in Phillipsburg, NJ. In the 1950s, Mary won the Powder Puff Derby at Nazareth Raceway. In addition to her husband, Joseph, Mary is survived by her two sons: Guy Burgstresser and his wife Christine of Bethlehem and Paul Hedges and his wife Kathleen of Easton; two daughters: Linda Brinker and her husband Donald of Phillipsburg and Katherine Lutz and her husband John of Mt. Pocono; one brother: Raymond Nardo of Florida; one sister: Louise Flexer of Florida; seven grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and several nieces & nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her first husband: Budd Burgstresser; her sister: Norma Nardo Frinzi and her son Joseph A. Hedges III, who passed away two weeks ago. There will be a viewing on Wednesday, February 16 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm & 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, route 940, Cresco. The Reverend Father Joseph Kopacz will celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am on Thursday, February 17 at St. Mary of the Mount Church, 27 Fairview Ave, Mt. Pocono. Private cremation will follow at the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Mary of the Mount, 27 Fairview Ave., Mt. Pocono, Pa 18344.
