Obituary of William Hughes

William Gard Hughes (November 30, 1916 - December 4, 2012) William Gard Hughes , 96, of Pen Argyl, died on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at Chandler Estates in Pen Argyl. He was the loving husband of the late Grace (Hester) Hughes. Born in Newton, NJ, he was the son of the late Robert and Ida May (Black) Hughes. A veteran of the United States Army, he had served during the battle of Normandy in Northern France. During his time served he was awarded with the Purple Heart, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Service Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. William was a resident and graduate of Milton Hershey School for Boys, and as a young boy he was Milton Hershey's stableboy. A electrician by trade, he later worked for Blue Ridge Winkler Textile for 45 years where he retired as the Maintenance Supervisor. He is survived by his daughter: Connie Pisko and her husband Michael of Aiken, SC. He was preceded in death by his wife, two brothers and two sisters. The Reverend Rodney Wells will conduct a memorial service on Monday, December 10, 2012, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 632 South Delaware Drive in Mount Bethel. There will be a visitation from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00AM. Burial will follow at the Reformed Church Cemetery in Mount Bethel. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675, or on line at supportwoundedwarriorsproject.org. Cremation services were entrusted to the Bolock Funeral Home Crematory.
