Charles P. Peterson
Charley Peterson, 84, of Paradise Valley, died Tuesday, February 22, 2010 at the VNA Hospice House in East Stroudsburg , PA. He was the loving husband of Muriel (Matthews) Peterson,they would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in June.
Born in Philadelphia, PA, Charley was a graduate of West Scranton High School class of 1944 and served in the United States Navy during World War II. After serving with the Navy he became the Bell telephone man for the Mt. Pocono area. After his retirement from the phone company, Charley co owned Re ty ed a phone repair service company. He was a life member and served as the past chief and board chairman of the Pocono Mountain Volunteer Fire Co. and also chaired the bingo at their carnival for many years.
For over 50 years he was a member of the Masonic Lodge #780 Cresco. He was telephone pioneer, a former boy scout leader and a member of the Mt. Pocono United Methodist Church. Charley enjoyed spending time outdoors hunting and fishing.
In addition to his wife Muriel, he is survived by a daughter: Wendy Swiderski of Paradise Valley, PA; two granddaughters: Kristi Swiderski of Orlando, FL and Michelle Swiderski of Reeders, PA; one niece and two nephews.
There will be a visitation on Friday, February 25 from 6:00 to 8:30 pm at the Bolock Funeral Home, corner of routes 940 & 390, Cresco and on Saturday, February 26 at 10:00 am at the Mt. Pocono United Methodist Church, 12 Church Avenue, Mt. Pocono. A service will follow at 11:00 am at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Charley, may be made to the Barrett Paradise Friendly library, 6500 route 191 Cresco, PA 18326.
