Obituary of George Mills

George P. Mills, 89, of Canadensis, died January 3, 2013 at Pocono Medical Center in East Stroudsburg. He was the loving husband of Jean (VanPelt) Mills. Born in Glasgow, Scotland, he was the son of the late George E. and Mary (Henderson) Mills. George was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, WWII where he served in the Pacific Theatre on the USS Minneapolis. After returning from the War he married and had 6 children and spent the first half of his life in Bay Ridge Brooklyn. He was a mechanical draftsman at AM&F for 30 years. The next half of his life was spent in the Poconos where he built many life long friendships with Chick Daniels, Ted May, Gerry Magnason and John Vanderweel. George was an active member of Evans Beltz American legion Post 922 in Canadensis and the VFW Post 3448 in Tobyanna. He was a memeber of St. Bernadette's Catholic Church. George was most proud however of his family, he was a loving and unselfish father of 5 girls and one son who will forever miss him. He was a doting grandfather to his grandchildren always looking forward to every visit and they loved a trip to see "Pop Pop". In addition to his wife, Jean, he is survived by his five daughters: Catherine Young and her husband Joseph of Manassas, VA, Barbara Allender and her husband Edward of Crofton, MD, Madeline Virostek and her husband Larry of Cresco, Mary Terranova and her husband Sal of Chandler, AZ, Jean Schupp and her husband Jim of Meadville, PA; son: George E. Mills at home; brothers: John Mills and his wife Shirley of CA,Kelvin Mills and his wife Cay of NJ; eleven grandchildren: Ryan, Michael, George, Emily, Joseph, Eddie, Sal, Steven, Jimmy, Jonathan and Joey. And great -granddaughter Kobee Lee. There will be a viewing on Monday, January 7 from 3:00 - 6:00 PM at the Bolock Funeral Home, 6148 Paradise Valley Road, Cresco. There will be a Mass of Christian burial on Tuesday, January 8 at 10:00 am at the Church of St. Bernadette Route 390, Canadensis. Burial will follow at Moravian Cemetery, Route 447, Canadensis. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in George's honor to St. Jude's Children Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
